The following curriculum is designed for the student who wishes to enter the nursing profession directly upon the completion of the two year (five semesters) course of study. The program is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) and accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), [3390 Peachtree D. NE, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA, 30026, 1-404-975-5000 and fax: 1-404-975-5020].

Completion of the ADN program of study provides graduates the opportunity to take the national licensure examination (NCLEX-RN) and apply for licensure as a registered nurse (RN).

A student seeking entry into the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program must meet with the advisor, attend an application orientation session, and complete additional admission procedures as required.  These requirements include, but are not limited to, making the required scores on the HESI Admission Assessment (HESI A2), providing documentation of immunization or immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, tetanus, and diphtheria as required by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and submitting to a criminal background check.  Refer to http://www.actx.edu/nursing for further information or contact the Nursing Office at 806-354-6010.

Certain conditions, such as criminal convictions, a history of disciplinary action, a history of mental illness, and treatment and/or addiction to alcohol or drugs may disqualify graduates from licensure as registered nurses in the state of Texas. Further information can be found on the BON web site at www.bon.state.tx.us or the BON may be contacted at 512-305-7400 for additional information.

Students must have a grade of “C” or better in all required courses in order to progress to the next level in the nursing program. Any didactic nursing course with a required corequisite clinical course in integrated and inseparable from the clinical course; therefore, a student must pass both courses with a “C” or better in the same semester in order to be eligible to enroll in the next level of courses.  Students are ineligible to continue in the program when they have two or more course failures.  A course failure means a grade of “D” or “F” and when a student withdraws (drops) from a course.

Students enrolled in a nursing course(s) in the ADN program will be charged a non-refundable fee per fall, spring, and summer semesters for the products and services of Evolve REACH Testing and Remediation. Students enrolled in specific clinical course(s) will be charged a non-refundable clinical simulation fee per credit hour each registration period.
