The CIS - Software Foundations Level 1 Certificate provides workforce preparation for entry-level employment in software development support, web technologies, and information systems environments. This certificate is designed to develop foundational technical competencies, logical problem-solving skills, and professional readiness aligned with industry expectations and workforce standards.
The curriculum introduces students to programming logic and design, web page programming, database programming concepts, and UNIX operating system fundamentals, while also emphasizing business productivity tools, digital literacy, and effective learning strategies. Students gain hands-on experience using current technologies to analyze problems, design basic software and web solutions, manipulate data, and operate within command-line environments commonly used in industry.
Upon completion of the CIS - Software Foundations Level 1 Certificate, students will possess the foundational skills necessary for entry-level employment and will be prepared to continue into higher-level certificates or associate degree programs in Computer Information Systems.
All major course requirements are to be taken in the order approved by the student's individual CIS Advisor. The student must have a “C” or higher in all required courses to progress to the next level of the program. To remain eligible for enrollment in subsequent CIS courses, a student may repeat a particular CIS course only once and may repeat only two CIS courses.
