The CIS - Game Design Certificate prepares students with foundational skills in the design, development, and production of interactive games. The program includes a core sequence of game development courses and allows students to select an emphasis in either digital art and animation or computer information systems, based on individual interests and career goals.
All students complete coursework in game design, game engines, and project-based development, gaining experience with modern game production workflows. Students selecting the digital art emphasis develop skills in digital imaging, computer graphics, and animation for game assets and visual storytelling. Students selecting the CIS emphasis build a technical foundation in programming logic, object-oriented concepts, and software problem-solving that supports game functionality and system development.
The program emphasizes hands-on, project-based learning, culminating in a comprehensive game development project that supports portfolio development. This certificate prepares students for entry-level roles in game development and interactive media and provides a strong foundation for continued study in related technology or creative disciplines.
All major course requirements are to be taken in the order approved by the student's individual CIS Advisor. The student must have a “C” or higher in all required courses to progress to the next level of the program. To remain eligible for enrollment in subsequent CIS courses, a student may repeat a particular CIS course only once and may repeat only two CIS courses.
