AELE 0054 - English as a Second Language Advanced


Speak in a variety of rich conversations and practice listening skills using context clues, retelling, or paraphrasing of ideas to hear and comprehend the spoken message. Identify central ideas and supporting details in spoken language. When listening to spoken language, summarize and take notes in a variety of ways. Begin to understand the author’s craft. Practice annotating a variety of sophisticated texts that include new and challenging vocabulary. Make inferences, connections, generate questions through spoken language, evaluating the accuracy and relevance. Read complex texts for fluency and progress in reading strategies for comprehension of the author’s craft. Identify, analyze, and evaluate an author’s assumptions and beliefs about a topic. Be exposed to idioms and figures of speech. Accurately paraphrase and summarize information. Write essays that are entertaining,  informational, or argumentative by using the writing process (pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, publishing, share). Learn the writing conventions, including voice, tense, structure, and grammar.
