Major Code - DHYG.AAS
actx.edu/dental_hy

Prepares students for a career as a dental hygienist.  Upon successful completion of the Associate of Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene, graduates will be eligible to take national and regional credentialing examinations to become registered and licensed dental hygienists.

The Dental Hygiene program at Amarillo College is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, 211 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60611; Telephone: 1 (800) 621-8099; or 1 (312) 440-4653; www.ada.org/en/coda.

All of the major requirement courses are to be taken in a sequential order or at the advisement of the department major advisor. A grade of C or higher is required for satisfactory completion of all courses. To continue in the program, a student may repeat a DHYG course only one time and may repeat no more than two DHYG courses while enrolled in the program. The term “repeat” shall be interpreted to mean re-enrollment following withdrawal, drop or unsatisfactory grade.

Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to a specific health science program of study as these programs have additional requirements that must be met and enrollment is limited.  Students seeking admission into Dental Hygiene must file a specific program application  on the Amarillo College Health Sciences website and complete additional admission procedures as required. Information is available on the Dental Hygiene website.
