This program is designed to allow students to obtain a Class A Commercial Drivers License with desired endorsements. Students who successfully complete the course will receive a Level 1 certificate. To enroll, the students must meet the following requirements: Be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid Texas Drivers License and a receipt from the DPS office showing they have applied for their Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), and possess a current DOT (Department of Transportation) Physical Card and clean drug screen results taken no earlier than 30 days prior to the first day of class. The program will consist of an overview of state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) in preparation for successfully completing the CDL written tests. It will involve in-depth instruction to prepare the student for the tractor-trailer combination vehicle inspection, the basic vehicle control skills test and the on-road driving test. Students will also receive training to provide them with the skills and knowledge necessary to begin a successful career as an entry-level commercial driver.
