Associate in Applied Science

Prepares students who wish to earn an Associate in Applied Science degree in addition to completing the academic, clinical and field internship requirements for Licensed Paramedic through the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). Successful completion also meets eligibility requirements for the National Registry of EMTs Paramedic examination process. Successful completion of selected course work also satisfies the academic, clinical and field internship requirements for prospective certification with national Registry of EMTs as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT).

Pursuant to Texas Administrative Code, Title 25, Part 1,  Chapter 157, subchapter C, Rule §157.32 (3) (C) and Rule §157.32 (4) (C) only students currently possessing a National Registry and/or Texas Department of State Health Services EMT or AEMT certifications may apply.

A student seeking entry into any EMSP course other than EMSP 1501, EMSP 1163 or EMSP 1438 must file a specific program application form and complete additional admission procedures as required. Information is available on the EMSP website.

A grade of C or higher is required for satisfactory completion of all courses in this curriculum.

To continue in this program, a student may repeat an individual EMSP course only 1 time and may repeat no more than 3 EMSP courses while enrolled in the program. The term “repeat” shall be interpreted to mean re-enrollment following withdrawal, drop or unsatisfactory grade.

A student will have 24 months to complete all major course requirements.

Program Requirements

*All Associate (AA, AS) degrees and Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degrees have a 1 credit hour institutional requirement of EDUC 1100: First Year Seminar.
