With an Associate of Science in Horticulture, you’re well-prepared to embark on a rewarding career in the green industry. This degree equips you with the knowledge and skills to work in various roles, including:
- Landscaping: Design and maintain beautiful outdoor spaces.
- Nursery work: Cultivate, propagate, and sell plants.
- Greenhouse management: Oversee plant growth in controlled environments.
- Arboriculture: Care for trees and shrubs.
- Golf course maintenance: Manage the upkeep of golf courses.
- Parks and recreation: Contribute to the preservation of natural areas.
- Research: Assist in lab and field settings.
An associate degree in horticulture can also serve as a solid foundation for further studies in Plant Science.

General Education Requirements (42 Semester Hours)
Mathematics - 3 hours
Math 1414 is recommended or higher math (please see advisor; best math option is dependent on planned transfer institution.) Life & Physical Sciences/Institutional - 12 Hours
Social/Behavioral Sciences - 3 Hours
Recommended: Major Course Requirements (15 Semester Hours)
Recommended Courses - (3 Semester Hours)
Complete a minimum of 3 hours based on University to which student plans to transfer. Elective course options are as follows: SPAN 1411, SPAN 1412, BIOL 1406, and BIOL 1407. NOTE: SPAN 1411 is typically the most beneficial course for transfer purposes. Total (60 Semester Hours)
