The Construction Technology program at Amarillo College consists of three stackable certificates which lead to an Associate in Applied Science degree with a specialization in general construction or carpentry.  The first certificate is the basic certificate.

The basic certificate is composed of six courses.  These courses introduce the student to a basic knowledge of:  safety, general tool and equipment use, drafting, blueprint reading, construction technology, construction materials and building codes.  The basic certificate also includes a special topics course to build students’ soft skills and mathematics.  Soft skill development includes: resume writing and job interview skills.

Students will be involved in project based learning to develop their skills and knowledge of the construction trades.  They will use skills learned to design, document and build two class projects.

As students progress through the basic certificate they will start the process to design and fabricate a tiny home from start to finish.
